Program structure and content
EMBA Module Optimizing Business Performance
In this program, you work purposefully toward a Live Performance Challenge in which you demonstrate through a real-life case that you can apply everything you've learned in an integrated way in.
Over 4 lecture weekends you will build a solid foundation for running and optimising an organisation. You'll learn how to take an X-ray of your own business and someone else's. Where is the value? Where is money being made and where is it being lost? You'll discover how to optimise the profitability of your organisation.
In doing so, you develop a keen view of business. A no-nonsense, quantitative but essential view of business that you can also convey in the language of the CFO, CEO and COO. This business foundation and additional components such as digital transformation and big data will give you the skills and confidence to add value at the highest level in your organization.
The EMBA Module Optimizing Business Performance prepares you for the Live Performance Challenge with 4 lecture weekends on
- Managerial Accounting and Control
- Operations and Supply Chain Management
- Managerial Finance
- Digital Transformation

Live Performance Challenge
The Live Performance Challenge weekend begins with a Harvard Business School financial simulation game as a warm-up. You will then work in groups on a real-life case in which you must analyze whether or not a pharmaceutical company is a good acquisition candidate. Each group is given an anonymous set of data from which to extract and formulate an answer. The consultant who supervised the actual acquisition issue is present to answer in-depth questions. After all opinions have been given, each group receives feedback from the company that actually commissioned the acquisition research in the past. Finally, the company announces whether or not it ultimately decided to acquire the pharmaceutical company and why.
Academic Director speaking
The subjects that are part of this block intimidate quite often. I think it is because they are very well developed disciplines that have a reputation for being difficult and mathematical in nature. Indeed, you can't escape using Excel, for example. But the moment the light bulb goes on, that you really understand, for example, what WACC means for your organization, or what the meaning of net present value is, that intimidation factor drops very quickly. When you then discover that you are indeed able to calculate a number of parameters correctly and then run a good analysis on them, you experience that you don't have to be an expert at all to understand your CFO properly. As a result, your value to the organization increases, and so does your own self-confidence.
