Dialogical Leadership
People often have one, or perhaps two perspectives on a task. This makes it difficult to make a decision based on multiple perspectives on your own. You need other people for that. The Dialogical Leadership Master Class focuses on dialog with yourself, with your team, and at the organizational level. You learn how to be as open as possible to different perspectives. With Dialogical Leadership, you and your colleagues take on and resolve the complex issues under your responsibility, with shared ownership. At the end of the day, you enjoy better decision-making and faster execution. The master class is highly interactive: you present your own situation and work on further developing your leadership skills.

Preparation
To get the most out of the program, preparation starts before the first session. There will also be time allocated for reflection or assignments between day 1 and 2 (evening task), and between day 2 and 3. Make sure to plan ahead so you can start well-prepared and get the most value from the sessions.
Time investment and result
The Dialogical Leadership Master Class takes place over 3 days. Days 1 and 2 are consecutive. Days 2 and 3 take place several weeks apart. This gives you time to apply what you’ve learned to your own situation and organization.
The program is designed to limit the amount of preparation time for the first 2 days. To prepare for the course, you read a few articles, watch a few videos and complete a preparatory assignment. Participants should plan for a total of around 4 to 6 hours of preparation time. Between days 2 and 3, you apply your newfound knowledge to an issue in your work. We ask you to reflect on this. This will be a topic for discussion on day 3.
Upon completion of this master class, you will receive a Dialogical Leadership certificate from TIAS.
PE-points
Several parts of the program can be used to register for PE points. The PE point system is currently undergoing some changes. Feel free to contact our Program Adviser for further information.
A word from our faculty
Jindra Kessener, MCM
“In today’s world, complexity goes hand-in-hand with lots of different interests. You want your organization to do ‘the right thing’ from all relevant perspectives. Dialogical Leadership can help. After all, we’re only human. People think they hold dialog fairly often, but in the master class, they discover that’s not always the case. How do you achieve dialog when you’re under pressure and your schedule is full? In the Shared Leadership Master Class, leaders learn conscious, effective and authentic ways to achieve broad and in-depth dialog in their organizations and environments. To lift up their clients, their organizations, their teams and themselves.”
Prof. Dr. Rens van Loon
‘Together with my colleagues at the university, I am at the forefront of the theory and practice of Dialogical Self and Dialogical Leadership. This approach, which centers on the idea that we as individuals can have more influence and creativity in shaping who we become as ‘ourselves,’ is something I have developed theoretically and applied practically for over thirty years, working with leaders in both non-profit and for-profit organizations, nationally and internationally. The effect is astonishing. People who gain insight into what we call the diversity of ‘I-positions,’ which together constitute the ‘self,’ are able to bring about effective and authentic changes in their thinking and behavior. My goal through this masterclass is to provide you with a profound understanding of this approach, in collaboration with Jindra Kessener, my colleague in this work.’
