Seize the opportunities of AI and manage the risks
AI is increasingly recognized as a driving force behind innovation and growth. But how does the potential for long-term value creation balance against the risks and ethical considerations associated with the use of AI? This requires keen insight and a proactive approach from top management. It is up to board members, executives, and regulators to take a leading role in this regard as signalers, drivers, and advisors. AI and digital transformation should be a regular agenda item for every board of directors and supervisory board; having this conversation early on is essential to avoid falling behind.
AI has the potential to add significant value, but digitalization, including data analytics and AI, also raises critical questions. That is why it is essential that directors, executives, and supervisory board members understand the impact, manage the risks, and establish effective governance structures.
Trust plays a key role in this. Inaccurate or biased data poses a risk to the accuracy and fairness of algorithms: a model trained with inaccurate or incomplete data can produce skewed results and lead to incorrect decisions. This can undermine trust and have financial and societal consequences for individuals, organizations, and society. A proactive role on the part of board members, executives, and supervisory board members is therefore indispensable.
